We have always led in trialling electric vehicles as an innovative solution for a more sustainable food service industry. Recently, we put into service a new, zero-emissions DAF LF Electric vehicle at 19-tonne GVW out of our Sherburn-in-Elmet depot for multi-drop deliveries around Leeds, in collaboration with Hultsteins providing the emissions-free refrigeration and NRG Riverside supplying the vehicle.

Reynolds' new DAF LF Electric is expected to deliver a 70-tonne annual saving on CO2 emissions.

“As a truck maker, DAF provides the right profile. Top-quality products supported by a widespread dealer network and a service offering that is the best in the business.” Steve White, Head of National Fleet.

The DAF LF Electric vehicle is equipped with a Gray & Adams refrigerated/insulated body and a Slimline 15 emissions-free temperature control unit from refrigeration experts Hultsteins. It has an electric motor developing 250kW nominal power and a nominal torque of 1,200Nm. DAF’s latest cobalt- and magnesium-free LFP batteries provide a gross energy content of 282kWh (254 kWh effective) to give the vehicle a single charge range of up to 280km (subject to route and weather conditions). The EV performance is fantastic, with driver feedback concentrated on ease of use and operating characteristics.

Based on a delivery cycle of over 100 miles (six hours per day/six days per week), we calculate the new DAF LF Electric vehicle will deliver an annual CO2 emission saving of up to 70 tonnes. The emissions-free Hultsteins Slimline 15 unit, which plugs directly into the ePTO, will contribute a 10-tonne CO2 reduction annually. With a fleet profile covering a wide range of weight categories, we continue to demonstrate a clear commitment to introducing electrification throughout its fleet, with the company already seeing efficiency benefits with smaller electric vehicles fulfilling local and last mile requirements. The new DAF LF Electric vehicle enters service with drivers following an extensive training programme.

It is a significant step forward in the journey towards net zero for HGVs and the food/hospitality business. We are excited to expand our electric fleet and show our commitment to boosting sustainable delivery. Nick Reynolds, Head of Sustainability, added, “We are at the forefront of sustainability in the food sector, and, with vehicles like the DAF LF Electric vehicle, we are showing a commitment to our customers. We are investing in clean vehicles right now.”
