HomeReynolds lends its support to FutureChef 2016

Bethan Disley-Jones, 14 and a pupil at Pensby High School in Merseyside, has been crowned the winner of Springboard’s FutureChef 2016, beating over 8,000 contestants to claim the title.

Disley-Jones won over judges who were chaired by Sodexo’s David Mulcahy and included chefs such as Mark Sargeant and Cyrus Todiwala, and cooked her way to the title with a menu of chicken with sundried tomatoes and chorizo mousse, followed by a dessert of baked pear and raspberry sorbet.

Disley-Jones said of the victory: “I entered FutureChef because I saw what past winners had achieved and I wanted the chance to do the same. It’s amazing to have won and I feel FutureChef will give me lots of opportunities for employment.”

Springboard Futurechef

Springboard’s FutureChef helps young people aged 12-16 to learn to cook. It inspires them to explore food and cooking as a life skill by developing their culinary talent and informing them about entry routes into the hospitality industry.

Disley-Jones will now enjoy an experience at Henley Regatta in July 2016 courtesy of sponsor Sodexo, who will work behind the scenes at the events, and will join her and her parents for dinner, a boat trip on the Thames and a day’s racing, along with accommodation. She also receives a year’s student membership to the Craft Guild of Chefs and her school will receive £400 of vouchers courtesy of Lockhart Catering Equipment and the mentor chef a commemorative plate.

Judges included head judge David Mulcahy, of Sodexo UK & Ireland; Steve Munkley, of Royal Garden Hotel; Mark Sargeant, of BaxterStorey; Will Torrent, of Waitrose; and Cyrus Todiwala.

Reynolds was proud to support FutureChef 2016 with the provision of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Reynolds Chef Director, Ian Nottage, commented, “Having personally been involved with FutureChef for many years now I am always impressed and inspired to see the quality of food being produced by such young talent. We are too often quick to criticise younger people for being uncommitted or lacking a work ethic, but this competition goes to show that the future of our industry is bright. At Reynolds we are delighted to support the competition and play our small part in helping to nurture the potential chefs of tomorrow.”
